Portraits on Hold for 2014

Hello friends and fans!

Just a quick note to say that due to our projected 2014 wedding workload, we will not be accepting portrait clients for the foreseable future.

It was a tough decision to make and we are always open to returning to portraits as soon as our workload permits but for now, we are happily referring our portrait clients to some our dearest (and most talented) friends and colleagues.

Much love,

Erika

Toronto Family Photography: The Tucker-Cordeiro Family

The story of how I ended up shooting a Toronto family photography session for the Tucker-Cordeiro family is a long one; but boy am I ever glad that I had a chance to work with them!

I love having giveaways and hosting contests; I think that giving back to the people who helped make you a success is important.  In the hustle and bustle of the modern day world, we sometimes forget to take time to say thank you – I do my best to not only take that time but offer a little something special every now and then to my friends and fans.

So how did I meet the Tucker-Cordeiro’s?  After announcing a winner for our ‘Just Because’ photography giveaway. the original winner never contacted me to claim their prize!  I drew a second name, contacted that person and set a date for the session.  When the week of the session rolled around they too, cancelled.  I understand – life can get busy – but I never thought anyone would give up the opportunity to have their memories captured on film!  So, back to the drawing board…. I was bound and determined to find someone to photograph.  I went back to the original entrants of the contest and drew a third name: Ashley Cordeiro!  Tah-dah!  Within 2 days I had the Tucker-Cordeiro family infront of my camera at the Kleinburg railway station for a Toronto family photography session.

(By a huge coincidence, Chad – Ashley’s partner – was part Stephanie & Jason’s wedding party.  I shot Stephanie and Jason’s Mississauga City Hall wedding last summer.  Small world, no?)

“Families are the compass that guide us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.”

Toronto Family Photography: The Beare Family

A few weeks back I ran a photography contest; it was a pretty simple contest – I wanted to tell someone’s story through photographs.  I was truly overwhelmed by the response I received; 87 amazing people submitted their stories.  A team of amazing ladies read through all the entries in hopes to find which story they would like to see be told through photos.

It was a difficult task… an incredibly difficult task – but the girls did it!  One entry stood out.  And this is what it was:

“My Nominee is my husband, we have had a hard year and we are only half way through it! My husband has been on a road a lot for work – all this traveling means that he misses out on a lot of family time with our Prince, Connor.  Brandon, my husband, is my rock, my life line, my sole mate.  Back in April I had to have surgery and found out that I had pre cancer cells on my uterus.  As a result of this, I had to have another surgery – this one left me incapable of having any more kids!  I wanted to give my husband another gift of life from God but since I’ve had the surgery, that will never, ever happen again! I would love to win this as I would want nothing more then to have a wonderful family photos done as a small thank you my husband but just being him and loving me for who I  am and also being the world greatest father in my eyes!”

So why did this entry stick out from the 86 others?  Remi, one of the fabulous ladies who helped choose the winner sums it up pretty well.  Remi said “Most of the contest entrants wanted to celebrate something positive; a graduation, a new baby, a new job or a new figure & appearance.  Celebrating positive things is great, but the Beare family’s entry is based on learning to find the positive after expericing sorrow; after expericing a loss.  Audrey was able to look past the fact that her family will remain a family of only 3 and instead of grieving about no longer being able to have any more children, she found the power to want to celebrate her perfect family – exactly as they are.  That’s why we chose the Beare family.”

After meeting the Beare family; chatting with them and spending a super fun evening with them I couldn’t possibly agree more with them being the winners of the contest.  They are a genuinely spectacular and amazing family; their love for one another is so touching.  I was so glad that I was able to help the Beare family celebrate their perfect family of three amazing people.

Enjoy!

Toronto Family Photography: The Parr Family

I met up with the Parr family in Cambridge, Ontario, for a beautiful sunset family photography session.  (Yes, This Toronto Family Photography session actually took place sliiiightly outside of Toronto – I love an adventure, what can I say?)

The Parr’s had spent the whole day prior travelling to Cambridge from Northern Ontario and the girls were in need of some playtime during our photo session – hence the tree-climbing mid session!  Photographing kids is so much fun; you get to watch them laugh, giggle and play – something that we, as adults, often forget to do.

These two girls sure know how to make you smile!  What a great evening with a super family!

As Camryn decided to climb the trees, I couldn’t help but think of one of my favourite quotes from Hellen Keller:

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”

According to Camryn, life is most definitely an adventure!

Camryn and Brooke were so good during the session; they hugged and snuggled perfectly.  You can tell that they really love each other!

“There were once two sisters who were not afriad of the dark because the dark was full of the other’s voice across the room, because even when the night was thick and starless they walked home together from the river seeing who could last the longest without turning on her flashlight, not afraid because sometimes in the pitch of night they’d lie on their backs in the middle of the path and look up until the stars came back and when they did, they’d reach their arms up to touch them and did.”
